Charlie and Fernando and I loved every minute of the VNV Nation show tonight. At one point Ronan went on a rant about ringtones that culminated in my favorite quote of the night - "I don't do drugs, I don't need to. Seriously, all the endorphins you need are in here! All the trippy shit you need is in here!" See the video below, someone recorded it.

On the 40th Anniversary of Stonewall, the Rainbow Lounge is raided in Fort Worth, Texas, and one patron is left with a freakin brain injury. Dallas Voice

RIP Farrah Fawcett. While we're being broadsided with the music of Michael Jackson, Farrah also recorded a song of her own, a duet with Jean-Paul Vignon entitled "You."

Cranking the symphonic metal on the iPod can really motivate you into completing all kinds of domestic annoyances.

 Ariane

Ariane took me to Taylor's Automatic Refreshers for a belated birthday dinner on the most beautiful sunny day that lasted well into the night.

I've been getting back into the ambient music lately including the Meanderthals. This video is for their song "Bugges Room" from their new release "Desire Lines."

Only in San Francisco can summer look this gloomy.

beautiful people

I'm loving the British TV show Beautiful People which is running now on Logo. If you havent been watching, do check it out.

I couldn't miss Gentleman Reg at The Independent last night. It was his first San Francisco appearance, opening for A Camp - whom I cared nothing about. I didn't even stay to see them. But having emailed Reg before asking things like, "When are you going to come to San Francisco?" - it seemed necessary to be there, even if it was happening in the middle of work. I clocked out though, drove over and ran in just as his set began - and I absolutely loved every minute of it. He played mostly things from the new album "Jet Black", but he pulled out "The Boyfriend Song" too which made me very happy.

silver crest

Norma Louie and I used to spend time at The Silver Crest about ten years ago and we were often the only ones there. It's kind of like entering a world where time has stopped. Driving by and seeing the place always open and often empty has continued to make it a source of mystery and intrigue. That's why this article is so great.

This song has been a quiet favorite of mine for awhile now. It's by Luke, one of several great artists from Denmark that I enjoy. Today I discovered this video for it.

Patrick Wolf played last night at Slim's for two full hours and I couldn't have been happier about it. I love The Bachelor, his new release, and love it even more after hearing several tracks live and listening to his insights into what went into creating them. He truly is a musical genius.

Annie, the founder of World Hoop Day, and I have officially started our planning for World Hoop Day 2009 here in the Bay Area. We'll have nine hours of activities on 9/9/09.

Patrick Wolf's "The Bachelor" is finally out and the video for "Hard Times" has been released. Absolutely brilliant!

I awoke from a dream in which I married gay Canadian fiddler Ashley MacIsaac. I've been a big fan for years, but it was still a bit of a surprise. The maple leaves are still blowing through my mind and there's a smile on my face.

When I was in Calgary I discovered Amadou & Mariam. Their latest "Welcome to Mali" was playing somewhere I was and after a few tracks I knew I had to have it and scored a copy and have been playing it ever since. Thanks to a country where French is one of the national languages I discovered artists from Mali in the Great White North. One thing I've learned since returning to the states about them too is that they're both blind. They met at Mali's Institute for the Young Blind, discovered their shared interest in music, married in 1980 and have been recording ever since.

On Saturday night in Calgary, Alberta, Brad took me to an Alberta Rockies Gay Rodeo Association dance that also included a competition series of faux rodeo events with adults riding the ropes on toy stick horses. The real rodeo is happening at the end of June.
